SATURDAY, June 27th at Noon ~ Seanchai InWorldz

X-MINUS 1
"...Adventures in which you'll live in a million could-be years on a thousand maybe worlds..."

X Minus One holds the record for the longest running SF radio series  ever produced, airing on NBC for almost three years (1955-58) and spanning 113 episodes, and one revival show that had nothing to do with the original production.  However, as successful as it was, the popularity of radio drama was on the wane as the juggernaut of television inexorably took over the home. Low budgets and increasingly disinterested sponsors made production difficult, but these adversities were somewhat counterbalanced by a direct tie-in with Galaxy magazine, a popular SF digest of the period. Most of the stories were culled directly from the pages of Galaxy, or remakes of stories produced for Dimension X (of which X Minus One was originally a revival series). Many of SF's most popular authors got mass exposure through this series, and even today X Minus One is still generally considered a cornerstone of radio drama.

Shandon and Caledonia share two adventures from the classic X-Minus 1 radio series:

"HOW - 2"
A man orders a robotic dog kit in the mail, and instead receives an android, one ready to serve in every capacity and equally ready to reproduce himself a thousand-fold. All his problems vanish - until the government sticks their bean-counting nose into it. Story by Clifford Simak.

"MARIONETTES, INC."
A husband looking to get away from his wife for a vacation purchases a robot duplicate of himself to take his place. Bad idea..... Story by Ray Bradbury.

SCOTTISH MYTHS and LEGENDS

WEDNESDAY, June 24th at 7:00pm: THE TAIL OF EMILY WINDSNAP Continues

"Liz Kessler makes a splash with this tightly written, highly imaginative debut." -- FAMILYFUN

For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. And, oddly enough, for just as long, her mother has seemed anxious to keep her away from the water. But when Mom finally agrees to let her take swimming lessons, Emily makes a startling discovery - about her own identity, the mysterious father she's never met, and the thrilling possibilities and perils shimmering deep below the water's surface.

With a sure sense of suspense and richly imaginative details, author Liz Kessler lures us into a glorious undersea world where mermaids study shipwrecks at school and Neptune rules with an iron trident - an enchanting fantasy about family secrets, loyal friendship, and the convention-defying power of love.

Faerie Maven-Pralou, live in voice.

TUESDAY, June 23rd at 7:00pm: THE GREAT GATSBY Concludes

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Corwyn, Kayden, and Caledonia conclude their encore presentation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's great opus: a commentary on decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream.

Presented live in voice.

SUNDAY, June 21st at 1:30pm: A MIDSUMMER CELEBRATION!

The celebration of Midsummer's Eve (St. John's Eve among Christians) was from ancient times a festival of the summer solstice. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southward again. In later years, witches were also thought to be on their way to meetings with other powerful beings.

The solstice itself has remained a special moment of the annual cycle of the year since Neolithic times.  The concentration of the observance is not on the day as we reckon it, commencing at midnight or at dawn, as it is customary for cultures following lunar calendars to place the beginning of the day on the previous eve at dusk at the moment when the Sun has set.  In some countries still, Midsummer's Eve is the greatest festival of the year, comparable only with Walpurgis Night, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve.

Come dressed in white, in summer colors, with flowers and join us at the Stone Circle to dance and listen to music, poetry and tales! Aoife presents live in voice, with music on stream.

SUNDAY, June 7th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street!

Team Tea Time continues their newest series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's next collection of Sherlock Holmes Adventures -  "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.   TODAY: "The Adventure of the Yellow Face"

One of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the third tale from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in Strand Magazine in 1893 with original illustrations by Sidney Paget. One of Doyle's sentimental pieces, the story is remarkable in that Holmes' deduction during the course of it proves incorrect. (Nevertheless, the truth still comes out.) According to Dr. Watson:

"...where he failed it happened too often that no one else succeeded... Now and again, however, it chanced that even when he erred the truth was still discovered."

AND A SENTIMENTAL SUNDAY BONUS!  "The Mystery of the Spot Ball" ... a Sherlock Holmes parody submitted to the Edinburgh Student journal in 1893, which many suspect was written by Conan Doyle himself! Found from the depths of obscurity by our own Rick Qargen and brought to you this week for your added joy and amusement!
