THURSDAY, October 1st at 7pm: PATRICK'S PATH

Caledonia shares another tale from her fall release of short stories A TRIO OF IRISH TALES II

"Patrick's Path" features Pat Flynn from her 2013 story "In the Mists."

Pat is 24 now and he's tired of always walking in everyone's wake - following along behind.  He wants to find something that he is passionate about; something that he can claim as his very own. He also wouldn't mind catching the eye of Daimhin Finnegan.

Join Caledonia Skytower at the Firecircle as she shares this story, live in voice.

AND DON'T FORGET - @ 9pm, SEANCHAI LATE NIGHT
It's another late Thursday with Finn Zeddmore and a selection from classic and contemporary Science Fiction.  Come on down!  Presented live in voice.

WEDNESDAY, September 30th at 7pm: SERAFINA AND THE BLACK CLOAK Begins!

"Never go into the forest, for there are many dangers there, and they will ensnare your soul."

Serafina has never had a reason to disobey her pa and venture beyond the grounds of Biltmore Estate. There's plenty to explore in Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt's vast and oppulent home, but she must take care to never be seen. None of the rich folk upstairs know that Serafina exists; she and her pa, the estate's maintenance man, have lived in the basement for as long as Serafina can remember. She has learned to prowl through the darkened corridors at night, to sneak and hide, using the mansion's hidden doors and secret passageways. But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows the clues to follow.

Serafina and the Black Cloak is written for both adults and young readers. It became a New York Times Bestseller in the first week of its launch and was selected as an Okra Pick for representing "the best in Southern Literature." (SIBA).

TUESDAY, September 29th at 7pm: More from THE LIFE & TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID

Kayden continues Bill Bryson's reminiscence on a certain magical period of simplicity - childhood.

“Warm and laugh-out-loud funny, and full of his inimitable, pitch-perfect observations, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid is as wondrous a book as Bill Bryson has ever written. It will enchant anyone who has ever been young.”

MONDAY, September 28th at 7pm: A NIGHT IN THE LONESOME OCTOBER Begins!

Image by Via Estelar from Deviant Art
“A Night in the Lonesome October” is a semi-satirical, though not comic, novel by Roger Zelazny published in 1993, near the end of his life. It was his last book, and one of his five personal favorites.

The book is divided in 32 chapters, each representing one "night" in the month of October (plus one "introductory" chapter). The story is told in the first-person, akin to journal entries and explores a tale heavily influenced by H. P. Lovecraft. The title is a line from Edgar Allan Poe's "Ulalume" and Zelazny thanks him as well as others – Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Bloch and Albert Payson Terhune – whose most famous characters appear in the book.

A Night in the Lonesome October was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1994. A similar theme of conflict surrounding the opening of a gate to another world exists in Zelazny's novel “Madwand.”

SUNDAY, September 27th at 1:30pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street

Join the Tea Time Crew as they journey with Sherlock Holmes into THE VALLEY OF FEAR.

Holmes, Watson, and MacDonald travel to Birlstone village in Sussex. John Douglas was murdered at around midnight and had been shot in the head. The house is an old manor with a moat and drawbridge. A man named Cecil Barker was staying at the house on the night the murder took place and was a regular guest of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas. A sawn-off shotgun was found at the scene. It appeared to have been fired at close range which caused the head to have been completely blown to pieces.

Cecil Barker says that he believes a secret society of men pursued Douglas and that this fear for his life is what prompted him to live in such a quiet area of England. Mr. Douglas married his wife when he came to England five years previously. He had been married before and that first wife died of typhoid. Douglas had met and worked with Cecil Barker in America for a time and then suddenly left for Europe. Both Cecil Barker and Mrs. Douglas were aware that some danger overhung Douglas and that this danger was connected with some episode of his life in America. Mrs. Douglas says that she had heard her husband mention "The Valley of Fear".

TUESDAY, September 22nd at 7 pm: THE LIFE & TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID Begins

More from delightful author, Bill Bryson!

Like millions of his generational peers, Bill Bryson grew up with a rich fantasy life as a superhero. In his case, he ran around his house and neighborhood with an old football jersey with a thunderbolt on it and a towel about his neck that served as his cape, leaping tall buildings in a single bound and vanquishing awful evildoers (and morons)—in his head—as "The Thunderbolt Kid."

SUNDAY, September 20th at 1:30 pm: TEA TIME at Baker Street Resumes!

Join the Tea Time Crew as they journey with Sherlock Holmes into THE VALLEY OF FEAR.

The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is loosely based on the Molly Maguires and Pinkerton agent James McParland. The story was first published in the Strand Magazine between September 1914 and May 1915.

Sherlock Holmes receives a mysterious cipher message from a man who writes under the pseudonym Fred Porlock, an agent to Professor Moriarty. Porlock occasionally sends Holmes insider information. Moriarty is blameless in the eyes of the law, but Holmes knows him to be "the controlling brain of the underworld." Together Holmes and Watson decipher Porlock's message which relates that a man named John Douglas, residing at Birlstone, is in danger.

Nope!  We don't know who the mysterious Marianne is yet - the one dating Mr. Penderwick.

Nope!  Batty and Ben have not captured Bug man yet.

Nope! Skye has not found a way to get out of doing the stupid play that Jane wrote for her, which Skye turned in as her own but which she is now doomed to play the leading role in.  Such a shame that she cannot act!

Nope! Rosalind is not really talking to Tommy Geiger, who is still dating the annoying Trilby.

It's Halloween on Gardam Street, and it is all about to explode in a delightful concussion of mayhem that only the Penderwick sisters can conjure.

TUESDAY, September 15 at 7 PM: NOT THAT IT MATTERS Concludes

One last evening with Corwyn Allen to enjoy the delightful wit and humor of author A.A. Milne from his 1920 collection of essays and articles : NOT THAT IT MATTERS.

“Almost anyone can be an author; the challenge is to collect money and fame from this state of being.”

“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?”

“Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.”

“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.”

WEDNESDAY, September 9th at 7 pm: More from THE PENDERWICKS ON GARDAM STREET

What'd the buzz about The Penderwicks on Gardam Street?

"THE PENDERWICKS ON GARDAM STREET is a rare treat --- the family novel that the entire family, from relatively young children to adults, will enjoy reading aloud together. It is old-fashioned without seeming nostalgic, optimistic without seeming naive, big-hearted and happy without seeming saccharine. The Penderwicks are a modern literary family that families can feel good about inviting into their own homes. And, since this latest novel is but the second in a projected five-book cycle, readers can anticipate having the Penderwicks in their lives for many years to come."

~ Norah Piehl, kidsread.com

"Sometimes new people join your family and even when they are lovely it can be tricky to adjust. This book, the second in the best-selling Penderwick series, is about how the four sisters cope when their Dad starts going on dates . . . Batty and Ben are onto the mysterious Bug Man, Rosalind is feeling differently about her friend, Tommy Geiger, and Skye and Jane do each other's homework with exciting results. I love the play that Jane writes! The ending is super happy, Jeffery turns up again and the whole thing makes you want to jump into the air."

~ KayieDoglovesbooks on theguardian.com

Caledonia continues the adventure tonight, live in voice.

TUESDAY, September 8th at 7 pm: More from NOT THAT IT MATTERS

It seems that there is no subject on which A.A. Milne cannot comment with wry wit and singular humor.  Corwyn continues to read from Milne's 1920 collection of essays and articles, published together under the title NOT THAT IT MATTERS.

"We can't all, and some just don't.  That's all there is to it."

"Remember, you are braver than you believe, you are stronger than you seem, and you are smarter than you think."

Corwyn Allen, live in voice.

Image for the cover of A TRIO OF IRISH TALES II
Created in Second Life by Derry McMahon
Caledonia shares the draft one of the stories for her upcoming November collection of short stories: A TRIO OF IRISH TALES II.

Cale says, " 2013's A Trio of Irish Tales is by far my best selling collection, ever. Finally, the much promised second volume of stories is well on its way to completion.

"More stories, more adventure, history, romance and mythology.  Three modern tales steeped in the lore of an ancient land.  A Trio of Irish Tales II will call to your Celtic soul, even if you never thought you had one."

Today, Cale reads from "The Fairy Tree" reuniting with young Liam Killough of "The Shadow by the Gate."  He and his family have settled into life in rural County Wicklow, but Liam is at continual odds with farm manager Rose McLane. The tension has been mounting and explodes with unexpected results, leaving young Liam desperate to set things to rights again.

Presented live in voice at the Seanchai Firecircle.
Will last 90 minutes.
