TUESDAY, May 30th at 7pm: OLD MOTHER WEST WIND Continues

Welcome to the timeless world of the Green Forest, the laughing Brook, and the Smiling Pool. Here we meet a menagerie of funny and fascinating animal friends: Peter Cottontail, Jimmy Skunk, Reddy Fox, Grandfather Frog and many more.

Many note that Thornton Burgess and Beatrix Potter were writing during the same rough period of time.  They both have characters named "Peter Rabbit" but other than using animal personalities to teach lessons, the similarity ends there.

Potter wrote stories to teach almost cautionary tales about human habits and behavior, using the animals as substitutes for little boys and girls.  Burgess was a naturalist who celebrated the beauties of the natural world and used his animal characters to illustrate lessons about the earth. he wrote about them for 50 years in books and his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories. By the time he retired, he had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for the daily newspaper column.

Join Faerie Maven-Pralou to hear more from Thorton Burgess’ story.
